Cory welcomes approval of Immingham Green Energy Terminal
Cory has celebrated the news that Associated British Ports (ABP) has been granted a Development Consent Order for its Immingham Green Energy Terminal (IGET) project.
This approval is a key step underpinning the delivery of the Viking CCS project in the Humber region, by enabling the import of captured CO2.
Cory is working with Viking CCS, which is led by Harbour Energy, ABP, and bp, to develop a CO2 shipping solution which will transport CO2 captured at its Riverside Energy from Waste plants in London for permanent storage in the North Sea, via the IGET.
Commenting on the news, Cory CEO Dougie Sutherland said: “Congratulations to ABP as this has been a significant investment which will allow the transportation of carbon dioxide by ship. This is essential for decarbonising businesses which do not have ready access to a pipeline. It will bring substantial economic benefits to the Humber region, to London, and will give the UK competitive advantage to grow international trade at a time when we need to grow our economy. Viking CCS is leading the way in investing in and delivering CO2 shipping, and I am proud that Cory is their partner on such a vital endeavour.”
