Cory signs MoU with Carbon8
Cory has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Carbon8, a global leader in carbon capture, storage and utilitsation, as part of its ongoing work to decarbonise the waste it processes for communities and businesses in London and the South East.
Under the MoU, both companies will explore the application of Carbon8’s technology to capture CO2 directly from the flue gas at Cory's Riverside EfW facility. The CO2 will be captured directly into Cory’s Air Pollution Control residue by-products from the EfW process, transforming them into sustainable construction aggregates.
This collaboration will enable Cory to become the one of the first UK EfW operators to capture CO2 at source. The business also has ambitious plans to install carbon capture and storage technology which has the potential to capture c. 1.4m tonnes of CO2 per year by 2030 once complete.
Andrew O'Connor, Strategic Business Development Manager for Cory, said: “At Cory, we believe in no waste from waste. Capturing the CO2 from the waste we process and recycling Air Pollution Control residue into construction materials is an important part of this. We are proud to divert almost 800,000 tonnes of waste from landfill each year, and this partnership with Carbon8 will allow us to explore even more ways to make our processes more sustainable.”
